How to Speed Up a Slow Computer

There are number of factors which causes a computer running slow. Sometimes it may be related to software or hardware, while other times it may be due to Virus, malware. Whatever the reason, you should find the solution here. This guide provides five steps for speeding up a slow computer. Please note that the instructions below are for Windows users.

Step 1. Reboot your computer & Scan for malware, viruses and remove them & don't install more than one Antivirus and Firewall with Realtime Protection enabled.

Step 2. Uninstall Unnecessary Software Programs

Step 3.   Delete Temporary files

Press Win. + R

Under Run type %temp% > ok , select all temp files & delete all, similarly you can run "prefetch", "recent" & "cookies" as well.

Step 4.  Remove or disable unnecessary background programs or startup programs that automatically start each time your computer boots.

To see which programs are running in the background and how much memory and CPU they are using, Open Task Manager.
then to disable the startup programs run msconfig

Click on Startup tab & uncheck the program you want to disable

These startup programs are often one of the biggest causes for a computer to startup and run slow. Uncheck any program that you want to disable from starting up each time & click ok.

Step 5. Check for Free hard drive space & Delete unnecessary data from desktop, (D:) drive & clean your recycle bin as well.

Verify that there is at least 200-500MB of free hard drive space. This available space allows the computer to have room for the swap file to increase in size, as well as room for temporary files.

Step 6. Defragment your hard disk check for Bad, corrupted or fragmented hard drive Run ScanDisk, chkdsk, or something equivalent to verify there is nothing physically wrong with the computer's hard drive. Run Defrag to help ensure that data is arranged in the best possible order.

Right click on the disk and select Properties

Click Tools tab and select Defragment Now it will Analyze your disk first then defragmentation will start & repeat the same with every drive.
